After four days of doing the wrong thing, I finally got my D16Y7 freed from my 1997 Honda Civic LX parts car.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s ok, this axle was broken anyways.

Kinja'd!!!

I opted for keeping the exhaust attached

Kinja'd!!!

So empty

Kinja'd!!!

So dirty

Kinja'd!!!

no vroom no more

Sunday I work on yanking the broken D16Y7 from my 98 Civic LX and prepping it for this engine/trans. Soon the Civic shall be super quiet and burn no oil :D

This was actually a super easy and straightfoward pull once I realized the entire wiring harness disconnects at two points instead of trying to disconnect the whole thing from the engine, and realized I didn’t have to try popping the ball joints in order to pull the axles (unbolt the LCA from the subframe and wiggle it all out of the way until the axle falls out)

looks like you’re doing it right to me.

my only piece of advice is, pull your radiator on the car you’re keeping, I scratched/dented mine and was pissed. And if you can, keep the A/C from your d16 intact so you don’t have to worry about recharging it.

Both cars have good radiators and good A/C systems. I unhooked the power steering and A/C from the engine before I pulled it so I didn’t have to do any obnoxious vacuuming/charging/etc. nonsense.

So why swapping another D16 into it?

That’s like replacing the inline six from your 55 chevy with another six pot... the small-block is sooo tempting (or in your case, B20, K20, K24...

Because I have another D16. The one in my car right now burns 1 qt of oil every 300 miles and has a bad transmission (refuses to go into reverse, pops out of gear, bad input shaft bearings, etc.).

So many possibilities.
